YouTube Joins Pinterest to Pin and Promote Web Videos
Posted on Jul 17, 2012
Pinterest is not a new social networking website. However, it is a site that is currently growing in popularity and increasingly integrating video. Pinterest users create a pin board, which is like a virtual bulletin board, meant to save things that they like from other websites and share them with followers.
A study completed by Experian Hitwise in April 2012 found that Pinterest was the third most popular social networking website in the United States, behind only Facebook and Twitter. In March 2012, Pinterest had 104 million visits in the United States. That was significantly more than both LinkedIn and Google+.
In the first few years of existence, Pinterest was primarily used for collecting and sharing pictures and web links. Last year, Pinterest introduced a video pin that could be used to share web videos, and YouTube joined Pinterest last month.
YouTube is expected to make it easier for people to find Pinterest videos that interest them. For example, YouTube has set up the following YouTube Pinterest Boards that you can follow:
- Pinspiration (inspiring and motivational videos)
- Make It Yourself (DIY craft ideas)
- Life 101 (time saving tricks in a variety of areas)
- The Beauty Corner (beauty tips and how-to videos)
- NomNomNom (15 minute meals)
- Work It Out (fitness videos)
Other boards have also been set up, and more may come in the future. As of June 29, 2012, YouTube had 10 followers for all of its boards, but more followers for individual boards. Our Fairfax video web specialists are interested to see how YouTube’s presence on Pinterest promotes videos and whether more videos will start to be shared on this popular social networking site.
