If you were told that a study by the Council for Research Excellence (CRE) showed that 2 percent of TV hours are viewed on mobile devices, you wouldn't be impressed. But you should be.
Why You Should Be Impressed
So, if only 2 percent of TV hours are being watched on mobile devices, why does mobile matter to you and your business?
First of all, the CRE study shows that those who view video content are more focused than TV watchers. Why? Many people these days watch television with their smartphones in hand. Their attention is split between the program on TV and what they’re doing with their phone. However, when they watch your video on their phones, it's all they're watching. In today's attention-splitting society, that's pretty powerful.
The number of mobile devices is also on the rise, as is their popularity as a video- and TV-watching medium. Data provided by Bloomberg shows that, in the last six months, YouTube mobile video ad sales have tripled. In addition, YouTube is a top competitor for mobile video consumption. The Nielsen data cited in the Bloomberg article showed that "at least 70 million people in the U.S. were on the [YouTube mobile] app in March, up 42 percent from a year earlier."
If things go as they have been, these numbers will continue to rise, and video will become an increasingly important part of the marketing landscape. Want to learn more about how to use YouTube to your advantage? Call 703.962.1270 to speak with a member of our Virginia YouTube marketing team today.
