Why We All Need to Know About YouTube’s SMOSH Channel

Posted on Mar 24, 2013

On January 21, 2013, YouTube’s SMOSH channel became the first YouTube channel to have seven million subscribers. Earlier this month, SMOSH once again made history and became the first YouTube channel to have eight million subscribers. SMOSH hit this milestone on March 3, 2013. According to reports of SMOSH’s achievement, the channel hit this next milestone in just 41 days, which means it averaged about 24,000 new subscribers every day between milestones. SMOSH has also had over two billion views.

SMOSH is a comedy channel on YouTube that features unique content. SMOSH is not only important to know about because of its YouTube video success, but also because it was started by Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla. Mr. Hecox and Mr. Padilla were not well known when they started SMOSH, and they have not inflated their numbers by putting content out on hundreds of channels. Instead, as of the beginning of March, they still maintained just five YouTube channels (one of them being SMOSH), and they concentrated on providing high-quality, unique content to gain subscribers for their niche audience.

According to YouTube’s latest statistics, the website has more than 800 million unique viewers every month. These viewers watch more than four billion hours of video each month. Additionally, millions of new subscriptions happen every day. New and exciting content is routinely being added at the rate of about 72 hours of video every minute of every day.

Our Fairfax video producers congratulate Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla on the accomplishments of SMOSH.
