If you're above a certain age, you may remember a time when movies were made up of long, leisurely takes, some lasting minutes at a time. Increasingly, though, Hollywood producers have adopted what used to be known as the “MTV style.” This is made up of rapid, jittery edits, often from a first-person perspective, which can induce a sense of either weightlessness or nausea in the target audience. This editing style has also become more common in TV commercials, depending, once again, on what kind of audience the advertiser is trying to reach.

Understandably, many law firms want to be on the cutting edge of the video scene in order to stand out from the competition and attract a new pool of potential clients. Unfortunately, though, it's extremely difficult to market your law firm on YouTube with a slick, cross-cutting, and jittery video that mimics the style of the latest Hollywood superhero movie without including any of the special effects. Sober, responsible, and maybe even “boring” editing is your best bet, since you don't want your message to get lost in a jumble of superfluous special effects and cuts that don't exist for any other purpose than to call attention to themselves.
