For years, the YouTube Creator Playbook—a step-by-step guide to making effective video and ranking well on YouTube—has helped users better understand how to make, load, and optimize their videos. The tips range from basic to advanced and are laid out in an easy-to-understand, user-friendly manner.
With 100 hours of video being loaded each minute, it's getting more difficult to stand out from the crowd. It's no longer enough to make a decent video and load it to the site. Success on YouTube now takes serious time and effort.
Fortunately for those looking to rank better on the video hosting site, YouTube recently added the following updates to its Creator Playbook. They are designed to help you catch the attention of viewers and have your channel rank better on YouTube:
- Captivate Your Audience. With the dizzying amount of video on YouTube, it's critical that you work hard to captivate your audience. To do so, YouTube suggests that you create a compelling opening to your video, aim for high production values (optimal lighting, sound quality, and video quality), shorten videos with unnecessary footage, and only edit when you can do so seamlessly.
- Channel Optimization. There’s been a lot of buzz about proper optimization of individual videos, but now YouTube is urging users to optimize their channels, as well. They push channel owners to create a compelling channel trailer, set the correct sharing settings, and think about the design of your channel icon. If you follow their advice, they promise a more discoverable, effective channel.
